The Name of Jesus

We worship Jesus and remember his name every first day of the week, because he created all things, and holds everything together. We honor him because he is our Savior, our High Priest, and the Head of the Church. He has all authority both in heaven and earth You have permission to publish this article.

The prophet Isaiah said he would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (9:6) How could we not honor him?

We remember his name because he remembers our names. John 10:3 states that he calls his sheep by name. He rejoices in our faithfulness, and sympathies with our weaknesses. He calms the storms in our life.

We honor Jesus because while we were still sinners, he died for us (RO 5:8). We honor him because he is the best friend we ever had. No one else died in our place. In his seeming defeat in death, he turned the tables on his enemies. He yielded a crushing blow to Satan, sealing his eventual doom. Having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (COL 2:15).

We remember Jesus because when he was on the cross he looked at those who were killing him and said, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. (LK 23:34). We are included in that request. We were not there, but our sins put him on the cross, just as well as those who beat him, and drove the nails in his flesh.

We worship and adore Jesus because he arose from the grave after three days just as he said he would (MK 8:31). He was seen by many people including the apostles who knew him well, before ascending to heaven. He is seated at the right hand of God to answer our prayers, after preparing a place for us there. He gave us the hope that we will be raised from the dead and live with God just he does.
